Somatic Emotional Release: Inside My SEER Method (And the Bedtime Story Behind Its Name)
If you've been circling the same pattern for months — the same argument replaying, the same overwhelm creeping back, the same story with no real movement — this post walks you through the exact framework I use to actually shift it: somatic emotional release, or what I call the SEER Method.

Where the Name Actually Came From
This wasn't a branding exercise. It happened in my son's bedroom, when he was about two and a half. I was lying next to him while he fell asleep, thinking about my business and what I actually loved doing with my clients — this was the fall before I dropped my naturopathic license the following April.
I realized what I loved was the hands-on body work, the somatic training I was just starting to integrate, the energetic medicine work, learning to trust my intuition without second-guessing it, and getting underneath people's stories to the deep, patterned emotions we're practically born with.

I needed a name. Body work, energy work, emotion release — B, E, E, R. The Beer Method. Absolutely not, I mean what kind of clients would this attract (insert images of tailgate parties and drunk frat guys). And then: Somatic, Energetic, and Emotional Release. SEER. An intuitive is basically a seer. I registered it as a trademark this past spring.
Why Your Body Knows Before Your Mind Does
If any of this sounds a little woo to you, stay with me, I love the woo but there is real research behind it. Neuroscientist Antonio Damasio's somatic marker hypothesis explains that your past experiences leave body-based markers, and those markers fire before conscious thought catches up. That tight chest, that gut drop — that's not random. That's data.
The mechanism behind it is called interoception: your nervous system constantly reading internal signals — heart rate, gut tension, breath — before your conscious mind has words for any of it. This is what I'm asking people to tune into in every session, and it's why body-based healing works from the bottom up instead of the top down.
What Actually Happens in a Session
Before you even come in, I do an intuitive read — writing out what I sense is your highest priority to work on. Sometimes it's specific: "what's going on with your left knee?" and it turns out that knee is connected to a conversation from months back. You can always tell me I'm full of shit. So far, nobody has.
Somatic: We do a body check-in — hand over the heart or stomach — and find where the story is actually being held. We welcome whatever's there instead of pushing it away.
Energetic: We ask what that sensation is holding — a memory, an image, a color, an emotion, or nothing at all — and follow it without judgment, wherever it moves.
Emotional Release: The real content usually surfaces here. In person, this is table work; virtually, it's visualization — either way, we follow the thread underneath the sensation until it moves. Every session closes with homework — a phrase, a remedy, movement, a conversation, sometimes one of my audios. There's always a next step, because the work doesn't end when the session does.
Try It Yourself
If you've never asked your body what it's holding, try it now. Hand on your chest or stomach: is there anything here I need to know? If nothing comes, that's information too. If something does, stay with it. And if it feels a little silly doing this alone — that's normal. It's easier with someone guiding you.
